When I heard male and model in the same sentence, I was so glad the shoot fell on a Monday and I didn’t have to clear anything in my schedule to make sure I was assisting for the shoot. One of the reasons I was so excited to intern for the day was mostly because I have absolutely no idea what to do with guys in photos beyond my usual comedic work. With girls, its a little easier to tell them how to pose and dress, as I am one; however, with the guys, its like a foreign country and no one is speaking the same language.
As far as the usual morning styling goes, things go so much quicker when you don’t have 1-2 hours of makeup and hair to do. There are no accessories to pick out for outfits beyond shoes and maybe a scarf and belt. It all seems a lot more laid back and gives the flow of the day a very easy feel – despite the 100mph freezing cold wind!
Running on 3/4 of an Egg McMuffin, we roamed around Daytona & Ormond, ticking off the usual Ormond Library location for a business wear shot and then off to one of the empty car dealerships on Beach St. to get a more modern feel. Both locations went by smoothly and then it was on to the docks by the bridge, where we managed to finally find a buffer from the wind and some warmth from the sun that had been absent for the entire day!
Tasks for the day, included:
- Reflector Girl - Although my reflecting skills only came in handy at the docks, where the reflector decided it would play nice and cooperate with the location.
- Any small tasks, like running to get a reflector or different lens from the car.
- Kicking debris out of the way of the shot – mostly at the car dealership where mangled red cups and pieces of paper were floating about.
This Thursday I’m assisting a shoot in Jacksonville where the model is Yoanna House of ANTM fame. That’s pretty exciting!
