Model: Kelli Suire
On this Monday you find the comp card beginning off at the trusty Ormond Library building with its magical light and an abundance of cute, furry caterpillars climbing up most of the columns. During today’s routine comp card, I learned that there are even some places where you can’t get away photographing as a beautiful woman. If there is a man who insists on playing macho, they will approach and act superior. Not to be deterred by machoism when the location at an empty marketplace was just too fantastic, a quick pop over to the office for further confirmed permission to photograph on property was all it took to take us right back to the same location – this time with one less naysayer.
The comp card began with the usual trying on clothes and picking out several outfits to then travel around Ormond and Daytona with for the day. I think one of my favorite parts of the pre-shoot routine is getting to just sit and chat with whomever is having their photo taken that day. It makes me feel far less awkward later on taking photos behind the scenes. Also, having recently switched to using my 50mm strictly for shoots has been a new thing for me to perfect and allows me to not be right up in the photo shoot, getting a full perspective without making the model feel overwhelmed with multiple cameras being pointed in their direction. It’s like a safety blanket, but I love the depth of field I can achieve with the glorious piece of equipment on my camera!
